Display Cabinet
Designing and hand-building a glass-fronted cabinet from scratch.
A glass-fronted display cabinet designed in Rhino and hand-built from plywood, September 2023. The whole piece, from cut panels and a glued-up carcass to framed glazed doors, finished and installed at home. The most hands-on end of an ongoing interest in how things are actually put together.
A glass-fronted display cabinet I designed and built from scratch: drawn in Rhino, then cut, assembled and glazed by hand over a couple of weeks in September 2023. I made it mostly on my own, with Chih-Hsuan Chang helping with the finishing.
The carcass is plywood, cut down from full sheets and glued up square; the upper doors are timber frames with glazing, clamped while the joints set. It now lives at home, holding books and crockery.
This is the most hands-on end of the timber through-line: the same interest in how things are actually put together that runs from the heritage survey up into the Euston thesis.
